I have come to know the spring semester to be a bit of a slow work season. A lot of students and professors travel abroad, so the demand for art models is as great.
One key to balance is gaining work with art studios and workshops. I also find them to be great networking opportunities.
There is always the second job. Challenge can be finding something flexible enough, so when art muse assignments come in you can still work them.
The summer is a different beast for art muse assignments all together. The last few summers I had nothing. I am making moves to change that this summer.
